Brac Croatia Holiday
With idyllic little bays, hidden amongst the pine trees and plenty of meandering coastline of the island, Brac has some perfectly exclusive villa locations. Close enough to Split on the mainland but just a speedboat hop away, Brac is an island escape but within easy reach. It’s unspoilt and with an authentic feel and a growing gastronomic scene. Indeed, there are some pretty special eateries on the island using the best local, organic produce.
SUMARTIN BAY
An authentic and pretty location set right on the tip of Brac Island, Sumartin Bay is a veritable island escape. With incredible views out across to Mount Biolovo which towers above the picturesque town of Makarska on the mainland, just a short hop across the water, Sumartin’s many pretty beaches have a stunning backdrop. Private, waters’ edge villas nestle in wonderful hidden coves around the coast of Sumartin making it the perfect place for a barefoot luxury bolthole. Speed boat in from Split or Makarska and explore the coast or nearby island of Hvar or just enjoy the Island of Brac itself – there is plenty of scope for an inspirational Croatia holiday here. Sumartin has a nice selection of restaurants and café bars around the bay and there are some lovely bays and areas of interest to explore nearby on the island – climb or be taken (!) the top of Vidova Gora, the highest point on the island for inspirational views across to Hvar Island and beyond, visit the picture perfect sea side town of Bol or one of the little fishing villages for a superb lunch. You can also hop to Makarska for a day and discover the sublime beaches of Brela.
SUTIVAN BAY
An old stone, horseshoe fishing bay with pretty little beaches and an eclectic array of sea edge eateries to inspire – black olive liquer at Restaurant Bokuncin anyone? Sutivan Bay is a picturesque corner of Brac Island and home to some attractive luxury Brac villas that make the most of the tranquil azure sea views. With such a beautiful position, it’s easy to set foot in the bay, swim, relax, and not go far, but there are some beautiful walks in the vicinity and the area is well known for its hiking and bike trails through the pine trees and olive groves. For a satisfying lunch or evening try the delectable Restaurant Lemon Garden with their interpretation of “classic, Mediterranean dishes in modern, eclectic ways”. Supetar Bay and Mirca Bay are nearby or explore further around the coast to the blissful bay of Bobovisca and on to the Milna coastline.
BOL
One of the best known locations in Croatia due to its famous shapeshifting beach at Zlatni Rat, Bol is worth exploring. Zlati Rat tends to capture most visitor attention but the coast of Bol, at the foot of the tallest point on the island is has some lesser known and equally spectacular corners to discover. As with most of Croatia, the well known places are only the tip of the iceberg. Bol Town is a delightful old town and head in the opposite direction will take you to pretty bays and with fisherman’s coves and picture perfect beaches, intimate little coves with sea edge eateries, steps from your sunlounger with views to die for out across the water. Stay on to watch the sunset with dinner and some delicious wine from the region.
MIRCA BAY
Idyllic Mirca Bay sits just to one side of the town of Supetar on Brac Island. Supetar itself is a small town with a pretty harbour, selection of restaurants and convivial atmosphere whereas Mirca Bay is smaller and quieter – a beach side village with more peaceful beaches set among the olive groves. A section of villas enjoy a beautiful location by the beach so you can speedboat in from Split on the mainland and check in almost simultaneously. Low key and tranquil, Mirca Bay is a place to really hear the crickets chirp! With its perfect crescent beaches, flat turquoise bays and quaint fishing boat harbour this is a rustic retreat within easy reach of more sophistication should you want to up the pace. With a beach bar serving snacks and a simple restaurant nearby you don’t have to go far but a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk will take you to Supetar Bay from where you can also easily hop across to Split Old Town for a day trip if you fancy a spot of shopping and lunch.
SUPETAR BAY
The ‘main’ town of the island, Supetar is anything but big! It is a pretty bay and town with plenty of traditional fishing cove type atmosphere. There are some scrummy restaurants in the harbour and it’s a hypnotic place to watch the boats come and go. Supetar is a convivial place with many of the island’s ferries arriving at Supetar Port just to one side of the town. It has a contemporary beach club, water slides for children and lots of lovely waterside wandering to be enjoyed. Supetar is also close to the peaceful beaches and olive groves of Mirca Bay. Just walk along the coast and explore!
POSTIRA BAY
Pretty Postira Bay nestles by the sea close to Supetar. With a little harbour and a handful of restaurants, it even has some summer festivals to enjoy! There are coastal paths so you can explore and venture out to the fantastic Lovrecina Beach which is certainly worth doing. And Splitska Bay is nearby. There are pretty beaches all along this part of the coast and Roman remains were even found nearby.
