The venetian architecture and charming old town streets of Komiza and Vis Town are a relaxing balm to the soul but Vis has an intriguing additional history to be discovered and wondered at. Aside from the Greek and Roman remains that populate the archaeological museum on the island, Vis was also a military base for the Yugoslavian army during the cold war. Vis has much of its untouched character to thank for this since it was closed to the public until the 1950’s and has remained mostly undeveloped and authentically as it always was.
